Board MemberGibraltar Wave FC – the only women’s independent team in Gibraltar – was founded by John Gontier in 2021. John is a former Watford FC reserve footballer, John Gontier, who also founded Europa Point FC, another successful Gibraltar Football club, John has an amazing vision to take this recently-formed club into the European Champions league in a very short time, with all the kudos and financial benefits that follow. The club describes itself as a “community club wanting to help develop women’s love of football and get them interested in this great sport”.
The mission of the club is to help girls Learn & Love football to Develop as a Person & Player. Our main philosophy is that football is Fun and for Everyone. Everyone is welcome at our club. We do not run any trials and we do not set any limits. We want to have inspiring fun, unlock the potential of our players and compete fairly and respectfully. Furthermore, empowering Responsibility & Decision making on and off the pith is very important to us. Overall, we are striving for Positivity, Team dynamics, cohesion and Continuous Improvement.
Heiko Mock is our Managing Director and knows John since many years. He is a former football player and a very experienced UEFA licensed coach. Heiko coached youth and men’s teams as well as women teams in Germany. Furthermore, he is a long time coach of the Real Madrid Foundation Clinics in Germany.
But he doesn’t only bring his football experienece into our club. As an expert in IT and customer experience, he is also responsible for our Social Media strategy and online concepts, including our website.
With his world-wide business and football network he links us to partners and helps us to grow our football network.
Ixora Balootje is a seasoned professional with years of experience in women’s football. As owner of IM Consultancy & Management, she advises clubs, players and soccer associations on a variety of football-related issues. Thanks to her extensive knowledge and experience in technique and tactics, she also plays an important role as a board member, where she uses her expertise to support teams and organizations in their development and success. With a passion for women’s football, Ixora strives to take the sport to the next level.
